Lesson 15: Task 4-What do I believe in?

I think that the policies for schools are the correct ones that these students in this generation are in need of. Throwing a school uniform on a child doesn’t change the fact that the child is the way they are in general. I am against school uniforms firstly, students should be able to wear what they want to wear because this shows that they are unique in their own ways, I understand that it is not right if students choose to wear really exposing clothes but that is the only policy on school outfits that should be made. Another school policy that is going on in schools is the day to day activities, i think that a students lunch should be longer because 5 and a half hours out of 6 are filled with school work and only 5 minute breaks between classes, they aren’t considered to be breaks though because students take a while anyways to get to their next class.

I think that students should have an hour for lunch rather than 45 minutes, 15 minutes makes a big difference for students. Another policy that is not right in schools is the issue of violence. Police should be able to go into schools to monitor, two officers are all that is needed, most people think that officers shouldn’t be in schools because it can make the students feel somewhat intimidated but i disagree. I think that it would only be right for officers to monitor the schools especially high schools because high school has a lot of drama and a lot of issues that are faced especially at lunch time. Students should know that violence at school is taken very seriously and should be avoided at all costs. I believe that the policies that were made for schools were not taken seriously but rather were just thrown into place without real thought and understanding of the way schools and the students in the schools are in this day and age.

When people say that going to school is like going to jail, they aren’t far off, students are not allowed to do anything but get their work done and leave. A policy that i feel would make a lot of sense in schools is the right for children to use their headphones and listen to music, this would work when students have time to study or do in class work, i don’t see anything against that except when a teacher is obviously giving an assignment or teaching the class about something. When I was in high school, the one issue that really made a lot of problems happen was the fact that no cameras worked throughout the school, students and even teachers could do whatever they wanted which was wrong, a policy that should be made is the funding that is given for the school should actually go towards the school instead of events that are not beneficial whatsoever. Cameras should be fixed, school computers should be updated, the actual structure of the school should be in good condition, and bathroom walls with offensive writing should be taken seriously or painted over.

Lesson 15: Task 2-What has Influenced Me?

Throughout my life so far, I have had a various amount of influences that have really influences who I am today and have changed my beliefs and outlooks to the ones I have today. I grew up in an Italian and Portuguese household, after my parents divorced the households became different. One household was strictly Italian with the Catholic beliefs and the strong right and wrong based on the bible beliefs, in the other household, I feel like things were more easygoing and not hard to deal with. It was hard growing up because my parents were both catholic but for some reason had pretty different beliefs due to what their life was like growing up.

I had to make influences for myself, by watching movies and listening to music and coming to conclusions about my own ideas of what life is like. After influencing myself to wear what I want to wear, what I believe in, and to the extent of how my beliefs are going to shape the way my life is like it really helped me find what my true identity really is and how I would change things to avoid any problems in my life. I believe what is right, not what is ignorant and that is the way that life should be in today’s society.

When it comes to food, my family does not follow the correct lifestyle of the culture that we are in, we eat what our culture like for example: Pasta, Pizza, Caneloni, Lasagna, some desserts like Canoli’s, Zepoles. has to offer but we also eat other foods, it does not really matter. For fashion, we dress the way we want to dress, as the years go on the fashion changes so that is what we follow rather than what is culturally appropriate.

For architecture, considering that I live with my Italian parent, our culture goes all the way to Italy. The architecture that Italy has to offer contains a wide variety of different beautiful buildings like “The Trevi Fountain”, and “The Leaning Tower of Pisa”, the amount of architecture in Italy is really hard to keep up with but the two I listed are really famous back in Italy. As for leisure activities, Dancing in Italy is very famous, the most famous Italian dance is called the Tarentella. Another leisure activity is singing, in Italy, Opera is very famous.

To conclude, I do like how i was given a great amount of aspects to life, I have many different outlooks on the way life is and the way life should be like. I can’t say that it has been easy to keep the same beliefs that I have had since I was little but to be honest they have really been all of the beliefs that I am truly used to.

Lesson 15: Task 1- Where do I Live?

The community that I live in is not as big as the cities around me, I live in the 3rd largest city of Ontario, a city called Mississauga in Canada with the population of 668,549 people as of 2011. I have lived here all of my life, not in the same areas but all around Mississauga. Over the years, the population of Mississauga has only increased, the residential areas have been increasing and more housing units have been made.

I have lived in three parts of Mississauga, Malton which has the population of 37,700 people, Cooksville which has the population of 51,210 people, and Rathwood which has the population of 31,670 people. I noticed that Malton had the most diversity out of all of the areas i have lived in. Malton had the majority of English speaking culture but the rest of the culture were of non-english speaking culture as well as the majority of the population were non caucasian. The culture aspect in the other two locations that I lived in were majority of all English speaking population and were mostly caucasian.

Over the years, I noticed that there has been a great change due to the major population growth. Mostly this change has been good, there have been more houses and condos being built which gave more opportunity to newcomers who are looking to move into Mississauga, but with the good there has been bad. Mississauga fears that there might be overcrowding due to how fast the population has been growing and at some points its pretty difficult to keep up with due to the fast pace. Mississauga differs from Toronto, Toronto has been increasing in it’s population much quicker and buildings have been being made much quicker and it has been like that especially for the past couple of years and there is no way of stopping that.

The young population has really increased over the past 3 years and currently has really shaped the way Mississauga works, the young population has completely taken over and has cause a lot of the issues that happen today, the city needs to get under control quick because this population of Mississauga has only been growing faster and faster. Mississauga does not have a large amount of cultural conflict but they do have an amount that is big enough to be talked about. The community of Mississauga has attempted to accommodate these challenges by only making it worse, and that needs to be stopped because if this keeps happening, it will only begin to get worse as the population grows.

To conclude, this has shown that the population is only growing, and there is no way to stop that, it isn’t all that bad that the population is growing but the outcome of this is that it is really hard to keep up with this city and problems are only growing without any chance of keeping the city under control.
